About
Kavos Corfu
Almost at the island's very tip, only 6km
southeast of Lefkimi in distance, lies Corfu's number one party
resort of Kavos. Ironically, only a short distance the other side
of wild Cape Asprokavos lies one of the island's most pristine
and deserted beaches, Ai Gordis Paleohoriou.
The very name Kavos can make most regular island visitors -and
not a few islanders -cross themselves in dread. There are no ambiguities
here: either you like 24-hour drinking, clubbing, bungee-jumping,
go-karts, video bars named after British sitcoms and chips with
everything, or you should avoid the place altogether. |
No doubt the remote location was the main
reason behind the authorities allowing Kavos to become Corfu's
answer to Sodom - scarcely anybody would have to run the hedonistic
gauntlet on the way to anywhere else, unlike Benitses' heyday.
Sport at night consists of several goals set up in the streets
for penalty shoot-out competitions and less innocent pursuits
in the bars and clubs. The vast majority of businesses are crammed
along the main street, which runs parallel to the beach before
bending seawards and onto a coastal parallel at the southern end.
Well before midnight and for hours after it, even walking along
the main drag is something of an obstacle course, so legion are
the drunken bodies outside the unbroken chain of noisy bars ,
whose sound systems compete in sonic ferocity. |
